VARIETAL: Catimor, Typica and Red Leaf Typica

GRADE: 1

Sumatra Mandheling coffee originates from the lush, volcanic highlands of northern Sumatra, Indonesia, where coffee cultivation dates back to the early 19th century under Dutch colonial rule. Named after the Mandailing people, an ethnic group native to the region, this coffee is grown in the fertile soils of areas like Aceh and North Sumatra at altitudes of 1,100–1,500 meters. The region's humid climate and the traditional Giling Basah (wet-hulling) process create its signature full body, low acidity, and rich, earthy complexity. Expect deep notes of dark chocolate, cedar, and spice, complemented by hints of tobacco and dried fruit. With its smooth, syrupy mouthfeel and bold, lingering finish, Sumatra Mandheling remains one of the most distinctive and sought-after coffees in the world.

In the cup: Aroma of sweet pipe tobacco, chocolate and caramel. Flavours of bittersweet cocoa, dark spices, herbal undertones and long roasted nuts aftertaste. Low acidity. Medium round body.

Score: 88.5+
